School and Academics:
For over 140 years, Morgan State University has been an important part of the higher education
system in Baltimore City, the State of Maryland, and the nation.
Throughout its history, Morgan has served the community with
distinction while meeting the educational needs of an increasingly
diverse society. Its designation as Maryland's Public Urban University
assures that Morgan will continue to
play a prominent role in Maryland's education future.
Morgan
awards more bachelor's degrees to African-American students than any
campus in Maryland. In many fields- especially in engineering and the
sciences- Morgan accounts for large percentages of the degrees that
African-Americans receive from Maryland institutions. An above-average
percentage of Morgan graduates enter graduate and professional schools.
Morgan ranks among the top four colleges and universities nationally in
the number of black graduates who subsequently receive Ph.D. degrees.
Typically, about 41 percent of our graduating seniors report in May
that they have found employment, and about 23 percent indicate that
they have applied to graduate or professional schools. Of the students
seeking to pursue advanced study, 74 percent report that they have
applied to programs directly related to their majors at Morgan. |
